1. Quick Reference Electrical Specification Matrix

The Harvia Vega Compact is engineered specifically for compact 1- to 2-person residential saunas. The 1.9 kW model features a rare 120V plug-and-play / dedicated branch circuit capability, while the 3.5 kW runs on standard 240V single-phase.

2. Critical Electrician Directives & Code Mandates

120V Dedicated Circuit Mandate

120V Dedicated Branch Circuit Code Mandate

Even on the 120V model (1.9 kW), the heater draws 15.9 Amps continuously. Under NEC 210.19(A)(1) and NEC 422.13, continuous loads running 3 hours or more must not exceed 80% of branch circuit ampacity (20A × 0.80 = 16.0A). It must be served by a dedicated 20 Amp single-pole branch circuit wired with minimum 12 AWG 90°C copper conductors. Under no circumstances may this circuit share loads with convenience receptacles, lighting, or exhaust fans.

A. Supply Conductor Standards & Neutral Wiring

  • 120V Wiring (Vega 1900): Run 1 Hot (Black), 1 Neutral (White), and 1 Equipment Ground (Green/Bare) in minimum 12 AWG 90°C copper. Neutral is mandatory for 120V operation.
  • 240V Wiring (Vega 3500): Run 2 Hots (L1, L2) and 1 Equipment Ground (Green/Bare) in minimum 12 AWG 90°C copper. Neutral is not connected on the 240V model.
  • Conduit Rough-In: Terminate wiring using flexible metallic or liquid-tight conduit through the rear knockout.

B. GFCI Breaker Policy

  • Manufacturer Recommendation: Connect to a dedicated standard thermal-magnetic breaker without GFCI. Standard Class A GFCI breakers (4–6 mA) are prone to nuisance tripping during startup due to minor atmospheric moisture absorption in the heating elements, which evaporates within 1 hour of heating.

3. Clearances & Spatial Layout (Safety Distances)

4. Wall Mounting & Sauna Kit Timber Construction

The loaded operating weight of the Vega Compact with 22 lbs of stones is only ~38 lbs (17 kg).

A. Pre-Fabricated Solid Timber Sauna Kits (Dundalk Leisurecraft & SaunaLife)

Pro Rough-In Advisory

Kit Owners & Installers Reassurance

If installing into an EpicSauna pre-manufactured solid timber kit:

  • Direct Wall Mounting: The mounting bracket screws directly into the solid 1.5"+ cedar or spruce wall staves anywhere on the wall.
  • Lightweight Footprint: At only 38 lbs loaded, solid cedar timber provides immense structural strength. No hollow-wall anchors, wall modifications, or additional stud blocking are required.

B. Custom Indoor Builds

  • In custom stud-framed builds with cedar cladding, secure mounting screws into wall studs or install a horizontal wood backer plate.
