2. Critical Electrician Directives & Code Mandates
External Contactor Box & 24V Transformer Installation
Relay Contactor Box Requirement: All Homecraft Revive heaters require a remote contactor relay box that contains the magnetic contactor and the 24V Class 2 step-down control transformer. The 240V branch circuit feeds into this contactor box, which then powers the heater.
A. Supply Conductor Standards & Neutral
- Conductor Material: Solid or stranded copper conductors only, rated minimum 90°C (194°F) (THHN/THWN).
-
Neutral Conductor: No neutral wire is connected to the heating elements. The element load operates on straight 240V (
L1,L2, and equipment ground). - Low-Voltage Thermostat Wiring: Run 18/4 or 18/6 low-voltage solid copper wire between the external contactor box, the digital touchpad, and the thermistor temperature sensor.
B. GFCI Breaker Policy
- Manufacturer Directive: Homecraft explicitly instructs: "Unless mandated by local code, DO NOT connect the heater circuit to a GFI breaker." Elements absorb ambient humidity in storage and transit, causing safe micro-leakage that will nuisance-trip 4–6 mA Class A GFCIs during early operation.
C. Manual-Reset High-Limit Safety Switch
- The heater includes a capillary high-limit safety cut-off switch. The sensor bulb must be mounted on the wall/ceiling as specified in the manual, and the high-limit loop must be series-connected into the 24V contactor coil circuit.
3. Clearances & Spatial Layout (Safety Distances)
Table 2: Minimum Safety Clearances to Combustibles
| Parameter | Revive Slim (4kW / 5kW / 6kW) | Revive Tower (6kW / 7.5kW / 9kW) |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum Distance to Side Wall | 3.5 in (89 mm) (1.0 in with heat baffle) | 3.5 in (89 mm) |
| Minimum Distance to Rear Wall | 1.0 in (25 mm) (with included wall spacer) | 3.5 in (89 mm) |
| Minimum Clearance to Ceiling | 44.0 in (1,118 mm) above top rim | 44.0 in (1,118 mm) above top rim |
| Minimum Clearance to Front Guard | 3.5 in (89 mm) | 3.5 in (89 mm) |
| Minimum Ceiling Height | 78.0 in (1,980 mm) | 78.0 in (1,980 mm) |
4. Mounting & Sauna Kit Timber Construction
The loaded weight is ~135 lbs for the Revive Slim and ~246 lbs for the Revive Tower.
A. Pre-Fabricated Solid Timber Sauna Kits (Dundalk Leisurecraft)
Canadian Timber by Leisurecraft Solid Stave Mounting Protocol
Kit Owners & Installers Reassurance: If installing Homecraft Revive into a Dundalk Leisurecraft kit:
- Revive Slim (Wall/Corner Mount): Anchors directly into solid 1.5-inch Eastern White Cedar staves using the supplied heavy-duty wood lag screws. Because the kit's walls are solid 1.5" structural timber, no additional internal stud blocking is needed.
- Revive Tower (Floor Mount): Stands on the solid 1.5"+ cedar floor staves. The anti-tip wall bracket secures directly to the solid cedar wall staves.

6. Sizing Formula & Sauna Kit Verification
-
Formula:
Room Volume (cu. ft.) + (3.3 cu. ft. × Sq. Ft. Uninsulated Glass/Tile). - Kit Compatibility:
- Revive Slim 5kW / 6kW (100–325 cu. ft.): Compact indoor rooms, 4-person outdoor barrels.
- Revive Tower 6kW / 9kW (200–450 cu. ft.): 6-person barrels (Dundalk Tranquility, Serenity) and outdoor cabins (CT Georgian Cabin). The 200 lb stone column produces huge thermal inertia for authentic Finnish steam.
Frequently Asked Questions (Electrician & Rough-In Knowledge Base)
What breaker size is needed for the Homecraft Revive 9kW?
The Homecraft Revive 9kW draws 37.5 Amps at 240V. Per the user manual and NEC/CSA standards, it requires an 8 AWG copper wire and a 50 Amp 2-pole circuit breaker.
Can the Revive Slim be mounted close to a cedar wall?
Yes. The Revive Slim requires only 3.5 inches of clearance to combustible wood, which can be reduced to just 1.0 inch when using the optional Homecraft stainless steel wall heat baffle.
